The aluminium boats are 5 meters long (over 16 ft) and they offer lots of space. These boats are very stable because they are wider than most hire boats in Ireland. This is a big advantage for stand up spinning/casting. The boats are very safe thanks to the build in buoyancy, high freeboard and overall stability. The reliable 4-stroke outboards are economical and quiet. You can comfortably fish up to 3 anglers in each boat.

All my boats have the following equipment as standard: 12 liter petrol tank, swivel seats, rod holders, fishfinder, drogue (driftsock) and a bilge pump.

At a small surcharge you can hire the luxury boats. These boats are even wider than the standard boats and they have an open flat floor with vinyl or carpet and a casting deck front and rear. The luxury boats also have dry storage space.

Since 1988 I have spent a lot of time on Lough Derg. I have fished in winter, spring, summer and autumn, in all weather conditions you can think of and tried many methods and all sorts of lures and fishing tackle. I think it is safe to say that I know the lake like the back of my hand by now! When you book me as a fishing guide you will benefit from that knowledge. I will do everything in my power to bring you to the best spots and to maximize your chances of catching fish. I am the only guide in Ireland that gives you a catch guarantee! (see below for details).

I use my own custom built boat for guiding. This boat is a Tuffy 1760 Esox. I imported it from the United States where it was built for fishing the big american lakes. The Tuffy is 17' 6" (535cm) long and it provides a lot of space and stability. The ride on the waves is very comfortable thanks to the deep V hull. My boat is equipped with fishfinder, navigation and a Minn Kota electric fronttroller with autopilot. Equipped with a 90 HP Suzuki outboard this boat is fast and we can cover a lot of good fishing areas.  Welcome aboard!

Catch Guarantee

If we do not get any pike in the boat you do not have to pay me the €200 fee for guiding. As you know, the number of fish that are caught are not always evenly spread between the anglers in the boat. One day you could get 5 fish and your friend might not get any fish, the next day it could be the other way around! Therefore I cannot guarantee that everybody on board will catch fish, just that we will get fish in the boat. I am also fishing myself, this will guarantee that I will bring you to the best spots I know and that I am 100% focused all the time while manoeuvring the boat over the fishing spots.

The catch guarantee does not apply when:

  • The windforce is 6 beaufort or more or when wind gusts are over 35km per hour

  • If you ignore my advice in such a way that it has a serious impact on your chances of catching fish.

  • If we don't fish a full day
